Another dragon yawn stretched from the cave. "Very well. Perhaps I
could use a snack this morning after all. I will come out."
And then slowly, sleepily, creepily, out of the cave came the
largest and most dreadful creature the young man could ever have imagined.
The dragon towered over him, it's toenails alone reached as high as
the young man's shoulder. The dragon looked down at him, sleepily.
"Go ahead kid, get it over with. Do your best to poke me with
whatever weapon you have brought so that you will know, as you sit in
my rumbling belly, that you at least tried."
"Oh great and mighty serpent!" shouted the young man. "Please, I
have brought no sword or spear with which to poke you, nor shield to
protect myself from your great might! I have brought with me nothing
but a pound of my mother's delicious biscuits. Do you like biscuits?
Would you mind if I sit down to eat a few? I am hungry - it is an
awfully long climb up that mountain path! Would you like a biscuit?"
The dragon was confused. He had faced many men, and not a few
women.
All had come with swords, spears, clubs or hammers, all hoping to
cut him, stick him, whack him or pound him. They had all at least
come with a shield to protect themselves. He could not remember
anyone ever having come armed with biscuits before. He began to
suspect that this young man might be dangerous.
"Are they plain biscuits, or do they have fruit in them?" Asked the
dragon. "I don't much care for fruit."
"They are quite plain - yet buttery and flaky! My mother does make
wonderful biscuits. Please, do have one. I assure you they are
delicious!"
"Perhaps I shall try one. before eating you, of course," said the
dragon, flopping down on the ground and lowering his huge head toward
the young man.
"Oh! That is delicious!" he moaned with pleasure as the biscuit
melted in his great mouth. "I don't mean to sound greedy, but may I
have another?"
It was not long before all of the biscuits were gone, and the dragon
began to look hungrily at the young man, figuring he might have room
for some dessert.
"Oh, one other thing I should like to tell you," explained the boy,
"is that I know The Secret Weakness of Dragons, so you should
probably just forget about eating me."
The Secret Weakness of Dragons? The great beast had never heard of
such a thing! What secret weakness? He had no weakness - every
scale was in place! He had no allergies, no aversions, nor any
phobias! No weapon could hurt him, no potion could poison him - he
was as truly invincible as any dragon had ever been! Even if someone
tried to sneak up behind him, he would see them with the hidden eyeon the back of his head! But yet. what if there was a weakness?
