The dulcet tones of This Love That I Have Given You by The Joy-Tones is playing as I write this. It was the overall musical theme to the movie (if you can call the last hour and fifteen minutes I stared at the TV a movie).
First let me give you the IMDB description.
Two police officers investigate a domestic dispute and there is an accidental shooting. Not wanting to be crucified by the public, the officers attempt to cover it up – only to uncover that the cameras aren't the only things watching them.
Yes, it's a found footage horror. I love them. I am a sucker for a good found-footage movie. I just wish I had found one, this time. I wanted to tap out after 20 minutes, but I was watching with Moviegoer Grim, and I won't be called a quitter. Not by him. Anyway, in we go.
First, I must tell you it's a Shudder exclusive, so you know it's low budget. The film does not disappoint in that aspect. You can tell where they spent their money. It wasn't on the acting lessons either. Now, I will say, the crackheads were believable. The cops, not so much.
There were so many mistakes that I noticed as I watched this…film. One big one, being the one cop had his last name on his vest, the other, his first name. Nope, not how that works.
Second, they are talking about covering up the accidental shooting, which, for all intents and purposes, could be argued that it was a justifiable shooting. But, no, Bryce wants to cover it up, heaven forbid he have to do the paperwork on that one. He even goes so far as to dig the bullets out of the victims. Yeah. The other cop has a woman cornered upstairs who is covered in blood. You see a blood splattered crib, but no crying baby, just a mutilated dog in it. That's when he hears the shots and goes running to his partner. Yes, he leaves the crazy blood covered woman behind. Um…not how that works. But I digress.
Now, I forgot to tell you this is all taking place in a derelict house that has most definitely seen better days. (Find abandon house…use as film location…save money…check).
They jump in the car, Bryce is driving and go to an even seedier part of town, they have to erase the bodycams. Yup, wearing their Go-pro's they are. So, now they realize that it has all been caught on the cam they have to get rid of the evidence. Not much of a coverup if it's all there on video. So it seems Bryce has some questionable friends, ones who still think they need to wear a mask, and they take his (yes, only his) cam to erase. Not thinking that the whole coverup scheme was caught on Jackson's bodycam. Dumb asses.
Anyway, she hears something that the woman says and gets spooked and decides that she isn't helping after all.
OH OH OH!! I forgot to mention, it wasn't just the accidental shooting that Bryce wanted removed. They found the crazy lady, she was down the street, and she cut her throat with a broken bottle when they tried to figure out what they were going to do with her. It was what she said that spooked hacker chick.
So, now they are back to square one, still on the hook, cams still recording, which apparently won't be uploaded until the end of their shift.
My advice? Take the cam off! Stop taking it everywhere you are committing or talking about committing a felony! Smash it! Drop it in the river! Or own up to your mistake and don't make any more! But, with such a low budget I guess they couldn't afford a camera crew, so they had to keep the Go-Pro's to film. You do see where they spent most of their money. I won't tell you where, but if you watch this atrocity, you will know.
Now, at one point, Bryce starts having a nosebleed and Jackson takes him home to his mom's house where she is hosting a meeting for those trying to kick addiction. There is a real underlying current of drug addiction in this movie. His mom is really sketchy about them showing up in uniform but she takes Bryce's hands while Jackson wanders around like he has never been there before. Even goes into his old bedroom and is confronted by a crackhead. This whole part really didn't make much sense except to establish that Jackson lost his sister to drugs and that Bryce needed to get home to his wife and unborn baby.
If you can't tell, I really didn't know what was going on or exactly what the metaphors, and they used a lot of metaphors and inuendo, were trying to convey.
I get that there was some kind of drug demon coming to take what was taken from him. I'm assuming it was a life, or two, still not sure on that. But Bryce thinks his wife has been killed and shoots himself and then does a swan dive off the top of some building that they managed to get to the roof on. The whole building has limited floors, no walls and broken staircases, but they managed to get to the roof. And the roof was still intact!
I was challenged to watch a movie, but no one could remember what it was called, so I ended up with this steaming pile of crap.
Hey Tim…what's the name of that movie???? Save me from the horror of bad acting and a poor production!
