BURBANK, CALIFORNIA, June 18, 2025 —
The popular "speed edition" of the Open Contract Challenge has now entered its final stages with only two contestants remaining.
In a battle for the ages between what seems like a David and Goliath match-up, the two remaining contestants have until July 11 to send in their completed manuscripts. Since April the competition has whittled the top 10 plus Wildcard entry down to a seasoned veteran and a first timer.
Christopher Keene is the author of a number of fantasy series, including A Cycle of Blades, Dream State Saga, and His Majesty's Paladins, while Tate Dousette is far less experienced.
"It's exciting to be in the final round," said contestant Christopher Keene. "I am curious about the other story but hope my manuscript can deliver on the promises that the pitch, chapter, and synopsis rounds set up. I've worked hard on it."
"I'm thrilled to be a part of the Open Contract Challenge, it's very exciting to receive interest in my story," said Christopher's rival, Tate Dousette. "Winning the challenge would especially mean a lot to me because it would mark the first time my writing has ever been published."
Established in 2019, in 2025 the OCC has for the very first time focused on shorter projects such as chapbooks, one shot comics, and art books.
