Wish upon a Sunrise
By: Ann Christine Tabaka

My intuition tells me
I should experiment with sunrise.
There is no one left to impress.
Darkness has taken hold of all the details.
Strung out across vast distances,
stars no longer listen to me.
They dance between
moonrise and the dawn
on a celestial highway.
Wishes do not ascend
into their heavenly realm,
no longer hear my plea.
I am torn from reality
and placed within a jar.
Sealed tight,
there is no escape.
All I ever wanted is to not be who I am.
Playing solitaire with a stranger
I wake up all alone,
and sunrise takes me by the hand.
