Rispetto for the Birth of Venus
AFTER SANDRO BOTTICELLI
By: Steven Bruce

Upon a gentle wave of the Aegean sea,
Venus drifts ashore. Born in a sea spray womb,
shell raft, she-symbol of virtue and beauty,
anticipating Horae's cloak of Spring bloom.

Swept forth by the breath of Zephyr and Aura,
gleaming here in Botticelli's nirvana.
Admire this pigment pearl, goddess of fair flesh,
because, without art, life ebbs with emptiness.
