Temptation Rock
By: Christopher Bice

I sit atop Temptation Rock
Wishing I could turn back the clock
My mind drifts back to that fateful day
When two best friends set out to play
Lake Superior on a hot summer day
Laughing, swimming in a backwater bay
Tossing our inhibitions away
Making love on Temptation Rock that day
A secret you told and I smiled
That you carried my unborn child
One last jump off the cliffs above
You said it would seal our love
Breaking the surface gasping for air
But you weren't to be found anywhere
They found you in that backwater bay
My heart drowned along with yours that day
People whispered they knew nothing of love
Not heeding the dangers from far above
I left Lake Superior one autumn day
My grief, my sorrow driving me away
Sixty years later, to the day
I'm back at that backwater bay
I've come back to Temptation Rock
Wishing I could turn back the clock.
