Well, here we are. The end of February. A lot has happened in the first two months of this new year, but first let's get the official stuff out of the way. Congratulations to Steven Bruce for being January's Member of the Month. To check out his winning poem A Tragedy, click on Contributors and his name. Congratulations to Jeff Young for making featured article for our February issue with his poem Burnt Flowers. It really resonated with me. Okay, now that I have done the official stuff, or at least all the official stuff I can remember at the moment, (I am sure when this goes to Dave for coding he will remind me of the things I forgot), let's get down to the fun stuff. January saw a smaller than normal issue for one very important reason. JayZoMon's Pop Culture Expo. PCE. Our resident coder was pretty much losing what was left of his mind and needed to focus on the expo. PCE was held February 8th in Victorville, California, and believe you me, (little Canadianism for you) I could do a whole intro on just that day itself. But I won't, listen to my previous podcasts if you want to hear my take on the day. I will say this, I had the best time. I was there a week early to help with the last minute preparations, but Dave and his awesome sister Rebecca pretty much had that in hand. I was just along for the ride. Literally. Which meant I got to spend some quality time getting to know two of the coolest kids. My Minion Zoie and her little sister, My Pet Monster Lily. I gave them those nicknames. I nickname all the kids I have affection for and one can't help but adore these two. We had so much fun riding around in the backseat, being silly, telling stories and wearing goofy headbands. I think I accidentally left mine in the backseat so I will retrieve it when I go back in October. I can honestly say out of all the things I miss about California, they are two of the biggest! I can't reiterate enough now The World of Myth really is like family. I was nervous about meeting those who had made the trip to the expo, but when we saw each other it was like we had known each other our whole lives. Pretty sure I should have warned Jeff Young to brace himself before the running launch hug! I got to hang out with the Open Contract Challenge (just remembered something I forgot in the official stuff) winner Melissa Ridley Elmes, as we had booths side by side. I don't think I have laughed that much in a long time. Then there was MythMaster. I do have to give him props, he was on his best behavior. We all walked away with our body parts still intact! One of the major highlights though was meeting my publisher, my boss, and my friend, Dave. We have spent the better part of two years talking every day, working together on the magazine and other stuff and to finally meet in person was great. Our laughing joking way just translated over into the in person and didn't miss a beat. Although, I don't think I will ever get used to his driving. Not in Vegas anyway. I said it before and I will say it again, when dude says ‘Hold on' it's not a suggestion. There were a couple of people I didn't get a chance to meet, Michelle E. Lowe being on of them and I truly regret that, but, as they say, there is always next year! One of the highlights for me this month was putting my hands on the Eternally Bound pocket book with it's snazzy new cover. That was a milestone for me as a writer and one that I still haven't completely processed. Over the next bit, while I will be focusing more on the magazine and building our online brand, you will start to see some new things happening. Committees will be formed, social media campaigns launched and new fresh ideas being implemented. I want to take our wonderful little family to the next level. I want to do everything I can to make The World of Myth Magazine the best it can be. I was recently promoted to Chief Operating Officer of Online Literature and I take that role very seriously. I promise you all now, I will do my best to fulfill that role and bring you quality literature. With Tshirts!! We do have an online Facebook group now for contributors to The World of Myth Magazine, if you would like to be part of it, just message myself, David K Montoya or anyone else within the group to be added. It is a place for us to chat, share ideas, work out issues we may be having with a piece we are working on and to just get to know each other. It is called Dark Myth Writers. No one there is above anyone else. We are all just writers there. Now for the business I mentioned earlier that I forgot Open Contract Challenge is set to start on March 22, 2020. I strongly urge you to get your manuscript, works of poetry or art collections together and be ready to enter. It is a great opportunity to get published, attend a large event and sell your published work and meet really fun people! We want you! Yes you. No, not the guy behind you, you! We want to see your work, so take a deep breath and just do it? What do you really have to lose? I hope you enjoy February's issue. As always it is full of a wide range of things to tickle your fancy, along with a few new contributors. Stop by their pieces, show some love, leave a comment and happy reading! Tune in next week for my complete review on The World of Myth Bits (best podcast on the network!) Don't forget to pop over and see who the MythMaster has in his lair this month. I heard she killed him with cuteness!! Our fearless leader has a bit to say in his Commentary so check that out and don't forget the review section. There are some great ones! Until next month Mythkateers!
