Everyone Needs to Eat
By: Linda M. Crate

for the longest time
i despised being a vampire's daughter,
but i've learned there are perks;
the fear in their eyes
as they learn it is the quiet ones
you have to watch
makes all the dreams they tarnished and torn
almost worth it—
but i will never thank them for the nightmares
i will just return them to sender
with interest,
in their darkest moment
there will be no one to save them;
just as they preyed on me when i was alone and vulnerable
so will i prey on them—
except they won't be able to dig their way
out of the cold, damp earth
the way i did;
instead they'll be trapped in death's song
and will not be sorry for it—
everyone needs to eat.
