Please

"Please bless me with a pumpkin," eightyearold Jaine prayed.
Her school classmates constantly chattered about Halloween costumes and decorating. They spoke of carving jackolanterns, too, and she longed to do some. She used to with her parents before their divorce, but Dad moved out afterward. And, Mom completely stopped celebrating Halloween.
At the Pumpkin Patch down the road, pumpkins of all sizes covered the ground. One moved slightly, then others. Glowing, yellow eyes opened on their sides and they sprouted legs.
Soon a line of them walked toward Jaine's home, up her stairs, and straight through the solidoak, front door.
