Grandma
By: Patricia McNelly

She was hanging clothes on the line

White sheets blowing in the wind no more stained wine

Strong when I was weak

Freeze tag and hide n seek

Didn't have a dime to spare

Needed things always there

Ready to participate

Waking up to celebrate

Wrinkles gave her perfection

Twinkle in the eye direction

Her company gave joy unknown

You never wanted to be alone

Lessons came in the simplest forms

Canning bean, blackberry pies avoiding thorns

Holidays were even better

Birthday cards and a handwritten letter

Sunday hymns and service

Believe in yourself, when your nervous

Time is precious on the radio dial

Drive and cruise the memory mile

She had to leave a long time ago

Each day filling up a hole

Passing down everything I know

To someone counting piggie's on each toe
