Review of Doughnut County for the PS4
By: Xilera

In Doughnut County the object is that you are in control of a hole (think old Bugs Bunny cartoons where he could place a hole anywhere and dive into it), and you move it around trying to get objects to fall into it.
That's it.
Sounds pretty simple and straight forward right? As the player gets more and more items to fall into the movable hole, it grows in size which in terms allows you to obtain bigger objects and creatures.
The player can begin with collecting rocks and traffic cones, but, if you follow this method your gaping hole will be so huge that you could swallow up and entire building! Being a pain in the ass to the poor folks of Doughnut County but gulping up their items with your portable black hole to only make it grow to collect bigger things becomes rather fun and entertaining for many hours to come! A similarity can be made with Katamari Damacy, as the objective of that game is about getting things with a growing ball that is sticky. Although, Doughnut County is not quite at the same level of Katamari Damacy, it rivals it in being captured in the game. I had a lot of the same feelings and reaction to this game that I had playing with the sticky ball, it was quite simply enjoyable to play!
Believe it or not, while I know that the initial idea of getting things to plummet into a seemingly bottomless pit doesn't sound that entertaining, but once you get the controller in your hands, within mere minutes you're addicted! It becomes a personal quest to swallow up as many and as big of things possible in the game, you forget about the simplicity of what you are doing and are engaged with the mission at hand!
You begin to master how to launch things back out of the hole in order to hit a switch or knock items off of shelvesalmost forgot to mention that you can fill the hole with water to short circuit electrical wires and such!
In regards to the puzzles offered in the game, are rather simple, but if you're looking for a challenge, figuring out how the hole is used to do weird tasks like mixing soup while inside the black void will give you all the challenge you seek!
At the end of the game play, and the sun had fully come out, I was pleased with the purchase of the game as it was fairly inexpensive. For a fun and silly oddity known as Doughnut County, I give it four stars
One night I was up late in my apartment scrolling through the PS Store looking for a possible new game to pass the time, since it was around 2 in the morning and I knew that I wasn't going to bed anytime soon. While I did stop at the Spider-man game (and I did download and play it, which was really good by the way), I ended up playing another game most of the night well into the morning hours. It was a weird little independent game. The entire thing is constructed around an odd, yet easy to understand operation, plus it is weaved in to a silly and family-friendly story line that you can complete in one session.

! It is also worth mentioning that my niece, loves this game as well!
