PART FOUR

By: Aaron E. Smith

Your perception of the distance before you is limited, though perhaps not any longer, she added. The space you sense around us is like a cloth and can be folded in upon itself, allowing us to jump from point to point without having to traverse its entire surface. The more times you fold it, the faster you can travel.

Is it possible to cross the entire forest in one moment? Simeon asked.

That would take the combined effort of many Fey, Chendrelle told him. But it is indeed possible. We are getting close now. Simeon released a long, drawn out sigh. What is your last wish before we meet our fate Chendrelle?

I do not understand your meaning Simeon Kane

It is customary among my people to grant one final request to those who are condemned as we are, he explained. What would yours be?

Chendrelle paused a moment in thought, then replied, I would look again upon the lands beyond the hill where I found you. Our forest once stretched far beyond it. To the north there was a small spring that was so pure its waters could restore injured flesh. In the first days, before my understanding of our world matured, I would go there to find peace. I know not how, nor why, but there was something special about that place for me. My last wish would be to go there once more.

Chendrelles reverie was broken by Voraphets gurgling voice announcing, We have arrived my Sisters prepare them for the ritual.

Simeons gaze upon the Dark-Fey was heavy with anger.

To be continued
