I was eye to eye with the creatures as I stood in the doorway. There were over a thousand of them, each growling and hissing, ready to tear each of us limb from limb. But I wondered why they had not rushed into the building to make their blood lusting attack.
I felt almost light headed, my heart was beating so fast. Something was wrong; although I made the kill, I wanted...no I needed to do more. More blood and havoc--it was calling out to me. Then without thinking I lunged forward, going out the door and into the hoard of Unluckys.
But something weird happened. As I moved deeper into the crowd they backed away. The demons refused to fight me. I taunted them; slew many of them with the fire axe that I had with me, and still they backed off.
I killed anything that was within striking distance. I remember I had a death grip on my fire axe and they fell quickly before me. Within moments I had made a trail of blood as the body count grew, yet still they refused to fight back. But that did not stop me as I began to swing wildly, no longer even bothering to aim at any particular creature. The last thing I remember was I tried to shout something, but only a long deep howl came out of me.
At that moment I was no longer a normal human; I had become a bloodthirsty Unlucky. From what I was told by the others who continued to watch from the school building, my attacks became more like one of an animal. I even tossed the axe aside and began fighting with my hands.
The first thing I remember after coming to my senses was Renee’s voice calling out to me, although what she had said did not compute right away. Instead of listening to Renee, I was more in disbelief at the sight of myself. There I stood in the middle of the crowd of Unluckys, completely covered in their dark tarry blood with several dead bodies surrounding me. But what was most disturbing was that I realized I was holding a bloody jaw bone of one of my victims.
Renee called my name once again, which brought me back to reality. I asked what had happened to me. She explained that I went berserk and everyone thought I had completely transformed into an Unlucky.
I told her that I was back to myself, even though I wasn't fully sure of that. My heart was still beating rapidly and I still had an unbearable urge to kill, but I was in control of my thoughts and was able to fight off the craving to do more damage. I looked down at what I had in my hand and quickly tossed the bloody thing to the ground. I tried to focus everything I had on what Renee was saying.
She told me that since the Unluckys were backing away from me, I would be able to get to the bus and bring it around to the front so she and the others could get inside safely. I knew it was a good plan. All I would have to do was keep from blacking out again. I started pushing my way through the crowd as I made my way toward the back of the school building. The rain had started pouring down harder, which washed away a lot of the sticky blood that covered me.
