Time Freeze

with Halloween Time by Dawn DeBraal

(inspired by Dawn DeBraal's "Halloween Time," see below)

Freddy's Time-Freeze invention
Fulfilled its intention
At eight-fifteen, Halloween night.
Wherever he aimed,
Every action freeze-framed.
Then he robbed all the candy in sight.

Every princess or ghost
Became stuck like a post,
Every zombie stood still, as though dead.
Where they stopped in their tracks,
Freddy ransacked their sacks.
"Trick or treat," suckers!" he said.

Once his own bag was filled,
Freddy scampered home thrilled
At the prospect of eating his loot.
Every sugary yummy
Went into his tummy;
Every gummy bear flavored like fruit;

Every chocolaty, nougaty,
Nugget of booty,
Stuffed his belly until it ballooned.
Even more than he liked,
Freddy's blood-sugar spiked,
Until he got dizzy and swooned.

Once his head hit the floor,
The world turned as before:
Time resumed marching forward and fleeting.
And while he lay dozin',
The children he'd frozen,
Blissfully resumed trick-or-treating.

Freddy woke to a shout
When his father found out
And he had to give up his Time-Freezer.
"Not 'til you're older!"
Declared Freddy's scolder,
Then, misfiring, turned him into a geezer.

Halloween Time
by Dawn DeBraal

Freddy Blake couldn't wait to use his invention on Halloween night.
At a quarter to nine, he stopped time and stole all the candy in sight.

Freddy Blake's ray gun froze them still, as they stood with candy in hand.
Their arms were stuck; his favorites did pluck from every bucket and pan.

When his bag was full, he could carry no more, Freddy ran home with his stash.
With candies and cake, a bad belly ache, Freddy felt himself crash.

Freddy released his hold on time, allowing the world to resume.
The treaters and more were running galore, under the light of the moon.

When his father found out what Freddy had done, he whipped him soundly to bed.
Freddy, they say, used his time ray and forwarded his parents to dead.
