A Lovely Halloween Visitor
A brilliant blue butterfly soared by Eulalia, fluttering here and there around the yard before vanishing into a grove of trees. However, it reappeared within seconds, landing on a nearby bush.
"You're so beautiful," she murmured, stepping closer to study it. Her eyes widened when it rose into the air and circled her before landing on her right forearm.
"Ouch!" She frowned at the sudden, sharp pain there. "What in the…?" A drop of blood rolled down her arm and she gaped at it. "Did you bite me? Since when do…"
Eulalia grimaced when she was bitten a second time. She shook her arm to dislodge the colorful visitor, but it didn't budge. She grasped the butterfly by the wings, intending to remove it, but it yanked itself out of her fingers, hissed, and turned, flying straight at her.
Seeing its pale, human-like face and bared teeth, she gasped and took an involuntary step backward.
The creature landed on her cheek, nipped her, and she quickly brushed it off.
A second butterfly approached, followed by a third. She waved her arms to shoo them away, but they landed on her anyway, biting her again and again. Blood trickled from her wounds, down her face, arms, and legs.
She screamed, trying to knock them off, but the dislodged ones immediately returned, and dozens more appeared.
Eulalia tried to run away but saw faces and teeth every direction she turned. They swarmed her and she panicked, lost her balance, and tumbled to the ground.
Searing agony spread throughout her body as the creatures devoured her bite by bite.
End.
