CREATIVE YOUTH
The Storm at Night

By: Zoie M. Montoya

When it's soft quiet night,
you think everyone is nuzzled up in their beds, fast asleep
while the stars in the sky twinkle
and the moon glows more than ever,

Whilst some are asleep
there are some, just like me,
who lie awake in the quiet of their beds
not because they refuse sleep,
but because sleep refuses them.

Their minds are crowded
with cruel and restless thoughts,
storms they never asked for
and cannot silence,

no matter how badly they wish for peace.
There are people like me
who have to wait it out
until the clouds finally rained themselves empty
or, for some,

they have to become the storm
before finally resting…

But for some,
peace never truly comes for them,
so they have to carry the storm
through the night
even while they rest.
