CREATIVE YOUTH
Lonely

By: Zoie M. Montoya

My heart aches every Mother's Day.
I watch the world celebrate
flowers in loving hands,
pictures online filled with smiles,
daughters laughing beside their mothers.

Some people don't care about the day completely,
but for me,
It feels empty.
the day passes like any other.

I missed the little things the most that are important to a daughter.
The "girly" talks,
the questions only a daughter asks her mother.
for comfort I crave hearing your voice
call me "sissy" one more time.
but they will only be stuck in a video.

Sometimes I would give anything
for just one more hug,
one more movie,
one more sleepover in the living room,
one more moment to tell you how much I love you.

People don't always understand
how deeply your death still affects me,
as I grow I learn to handle
Grief does not leave when the years pass
I simply learn how to hide it
on ordinary days.

I carry your love with me always, Momma.
And though heaven holds you now,
I hope the angels remind you every day
how deeply you are missed by everyone.
