Board Game Review of The Four Doors

The Four Doors board game cover

I picked this up at Gen Con last year, and after one play I knew it had to come home with me.

In this cooperative adventure game, players race against the darkness as they work together to retrieve four sacred treasures hidden beyond the doors of a mystical light tower. The goal is to unite the treasures and ignite the beacon before sinister shadows engulf the tower and seal the doors forever.

I did my research beforehand and found it similar to Forbidden Island, but this version feels more streamlined and less fiddly at the table. It's colorful, easy to teach, and highly replayable thanks to the different character abilities and team combinations.

The retail price also makes it an easy recommendation. At around $20 when I bought it, it delivers a lot of value for a lightweight co-op game. The artwork pops, and one feature I really enjoyed is how finding relics actually starts making the game easier — and trust me, you'll need the help.

I'd recommend this as either a great opener for game night or a palate cleanser after heavier strategy games. Solid 8.5/10. Go buy it.

Until next time, may the dice be ever in your favor.
