Not Even Death

By: Gabriella Balcom

Walking to the clearing she'd cleansed, Luzette looked up at the full moon and North star overhead. They were finally in the perfect position and she raised her arms to them, pleading, "Moonlight, starlight, strong and bright, grant my desire tonight."

She turned to the mirror she'd positioned against an ancient tree, took a deep breath, and chanted the spell she'd prepared especially for tonight. "Mirror standing straight and tall, return my beloved for once and for all. Death will have sway no more. Send Savino back through this door."

The mirror's surface shimmered and a man stepped out. Seeing Luzette, he ran to embrace her.

She hugged him just as tightly, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Nothing can separate us," she vowed. "Not even death."
