Haves and Have-nots exist and
I've always been one of the latter,
My needs unmet through the years,
But I learned not to let it matter.
No one knows what I've lived though,
What I've done without my entire life.
I don't talk about the dearth of love
Or my desperate battle to survive strife.
My scars lie out of sight, deep inside,
And pain and misery almost undid me,
But I'm a veteran at hiding what I feel
And the truth lies where no one can see.
