Got to Go

By: Margaret Gibbons Kiernan

It is not a dreaming night but over-arching all that is the need to get away, to outrun the hailstorm but still I get delayed on the route. The weirdest thing I have ever seen are Police cars driving spirals across the lanes on a motorway to try to stop or control traffic, then just as suddenly, they drive away and leave me there to resume my trip or give up.

Have I not been traumatised enough already? now I am searching through my emotions, pulling up the prior fear and that deep need to get away.

What had I missed? The news, the searches. A horse broke out of a pasture, broke open the fence which now lay smashed on the roadside, no sign of that horse.

A stranger observes the scene through his open doorway, feels no urge to get into his own script, loosely watches over his shoulder at the streaming TV news reel, his need is to get away too, he must go now.
