Justin stared in disbelief at the carnage before him and as the room faded away, he recognized the dog’s blood as the origin of the phantom stain Susan had tried to remove from the parlour floor. The last thing he saw before being swallowed by the mists, was Emma rocking back and forth on the floor cradling her beloved pet. When the mist departed again, Justin found himself standing in his front parlour, surrounded by unpacked boxes. Turning in a quick circle, he verified that he was completely alone, then rushed upstairs to check on his wife.

When he entered their bedroom, Justin noticed that the curtains were billowing from the gentle breeze blowing in through the window. He turned to face the bed and sighed with relief as Susan rolled over onto her stomach, settling into the pillow. Seeing that his wife was unharmed by the evening’s events, Justin grabbed up the laptop from a chair and sat on the floor in a corner to do research of his own into this mystery surrounding Susan and himself.
