Flames and Fascination

Heart racing, Pia packed as fast as she could.
Life had been nothing but hard work and misery until she’d gone camping last year. She’d glimpsed fire in the distance, and discovered a flaming, magma-covered cherufe. It had vanished but been on her mind constantly ever since.
Pia headed for her old campsite, building a bonfire after arriving.
The ground started shaking. Thumps sounded, getting louder, and the blazing creature soon appeared.
“I made this fire for you.” she offered.
The cherufe approached, and Pia smiled tremulously. But she shrieked when it grabbed her and she went up in flames.
