No One Lives There

The smell of freshly brewed coffee wafted throughout the kitchen. John lounged on the sofa while he enjoyed his coffee during a weekend visit to his best friend Kevin. Just then, the doorbell rang and John stood up to the door, thinking it was Kevin coming back from an errand.

He opened the door and saw an attractive woman, long wavy auburn hair and a cute dimple on her left cheek.

“Hi, Is Kevin here?” She asked.

John, clearly taken by her beauty, stammered when he replied, “N- no. He went out for a while to run some errands.”

“Oh, Okay. By the way. I’m Diana. I live next door.” Her dimples deepened as she offered to shake his hands.

“I’m John. Nice to meet you.”

Diana then excused herself and went back to her apartment.

A few minutes later Kevin came home. John immediately bombarded him with questions about the beautiful woman living next door.

Kevin frowned when he asked, “Hold up, Diana.”

“Yeah. She’s really attractive and she has that cute dimple. Why haven’t you mentioned you had a gorgeous neighbor?” John chuckled as he teased his friend but stooped when he saw Kevin’s face went pale.

“John, that apartment next door had been empty for a year since the last occupant committed suicide in her bedroom. Her name was Diana.”
