Review of Avengers for the PS4
By: Corey Aspel

Marvel's Avengers is absolutely worth your time in 2022 if you have some friends, anyway.
With a fantastic story and good gameplay mechanics, the game is a fun time if you just want to play on your own. But the fun times don't last incredibly long, as the story campaign can be beaten in just around eleven hours or so. But those eleven hours are packed with good story moments while following a newcomer superhero Kamala Kahn, A.K.A Ms. Marvel.
With powers akin to that of Mr. Fantastic, she has a very versatile move set with those stretchy limbs of hers. Her specialty is using her immense fists for crushing down her foes. She is not a carbon copy of Mr. Fantastic, though. She has her own brilliant personality with a desire to do good in the world. She is a smart kid, but not Mr. Fantastic level scientist, kind of smart. She's a superhero nerd like the rest of us. She sees them as an inspiration and wants to follow in their footsteps.
Although there are a few parts in the story that will have you wondering where you are supposed to go next, with a "select it yourself" level system that doesn't always tell you the right location to go to complete your objective, such as "collect enough power do-dads to continue on." Without telling you where the power do-dads are located.
Although you start as Ms. Marvel, you meet up and play as some of your favorite Avengers along the way, such as The Hulk, Iron Man, and Black Widow. Each gameplay style for the characters is basically the same with light attacks, heavy attacks, and super moves called "heroic abilities." But it's the way the characters dish out these moves that make each character feel unique.
I loved the fast mid-range attacks of Ms. Marvel! With the closeup area damage, you can bring about with The Hulk, where I did not enjoy the slower, gadget-based attacks playing as Iron Man.
Once you are done with the main campaign, it's all multiplayer missions' from there on out. You do have the option of having AI companions over players online, but the AI won't be able to revive you if you go down in an awkward spot like another player can. You go into the online missions with the goal of taking down the evil corporation known as A.I.M (Advanced Idea Mechanics). But this is just an excuse for you and your friends to run around and pummel villains while you get rewards. There are also many cosmetic outfits you can unlock for each character. Some of them are earned in the game. For some of them, you have to pay an in-game currency. Yes, this game is haunted by the dreaded microtransactions.
Unlike marvel's Spider-Man (PS4), where you can just play the game and unlock costumes, in this game, you either have to pay money or grind for a long, long time to get that special outfit you want. Not a deal-breaker but something that the players should be aware of.
With Marvel's Avengers going for $10-$15 these days, it is the best time to give this game a shot. A good production, short story game with some fun multiplayer.
