The Humble Poet
By: Peggy Gerber

Who am I to presume that I am talented enough
to fill the empty pages of a book with thoughts
plucked from my imagination,
and suppose that one day strangers might
curl up in a chair and read my humble words.
Who am I to believe that I am clever enough
to create a work of art capable of captivating
a reader’s imagination,
stimulating their senses and
inspiring emotions to flow from their hearts.
Who am I to imagine that book lovers
might wander into a store,
see my undistinguished name
on the cover of a book
and decide to give it a chance.
To give a shot to a brand new author,
a humble poet who dared to write a book
exposing the most intimate feelings
In her heart, baring her soul for all to see.
Taking the risk that she is good enough.
